THE SOCIAL AND DEMOGRAPHIC QUALITIES OF

MARDIN POPULATION

 

The Administeral  division of Mardin has been altered in 1990.After Cizre, İdil and Silopi provinces had been separated in 16.05.1990 in the 3647 numbered law from Mardin, they were received by Şırnak and Gercus province was received in the same law.

In 1927 when the population of Turkey was 13.648.270 the population of Mardin was 183.317 and Mardin was the 35th among 63 cities of its population rate.

Mardin stands in Turkey southeast Anatolian Region. The area of the city is 8806 square kilometres which is about %1.14 of Turkey’s area. As in 1927 the people living in a square km was about 14, it has risen to 80 ones per square km. The annual population rising rate of Mardin is %23.4 between 1990-2000.As in 1927 the population living in town was %22.8 it has risen to %55.5

BIRTH PLACE

In 1935 the %90 of the population in Mardin were born in this city. The rate of population borning in Mardin which is generally %97 between 1945-1975 has shown a progressive and slow decrease since 1975. This rote which showed tendency of increase has been %92. In 1927 the population living in Mardin which was %28.8 has reached to %55.5 in 2000 after showing an increase in 1950.

STRUCTURE OF GENDER AND AGE

In Mardin the rate of the population of male was fewer than the population of female in the period between 1927-1940. As in  1927 there were 98 men per 100 women, in 1940 the rate of the population of the female and male has been the same rate because the population of the male has risen faster than the female’s. The rate of  gender which showed tendency of increase after this year, decreased to 104 in 1970. The rate of gender has had its highest record 108 in 1975. There are 106 men per 100 women in 2000.

Since the level of prolific was so high in the first years of the population of the republic our population had very young structure of age. In Mardin half of  the men were 15 and half of the women were younger  than 20 in 1935.

In Mardin the middle age of the population which was average 17 between 1935-1950 showed a tendency to progressive decrease after 1950. The middle age which  showed tendency of increase after 1985, was 17 for men and 18 for women in 2000.

Note: It is seen that half of the total population of Mardin is older than 17.28 and the other half is younger than 17.28, half of the population of  male is older than 16.99 and the other half is younger 16.99, half of the population of the female is older than 17.57 and the other half is younger than 17.57 according to the results of the census in 2000.

 EDUCATION

The rate o the population literate in Mardin shows progressive increase between the two genders as it is in the general of the country while in 1935, %9,6 of the men and %1.1 of the women were literate, this rate rose to %84.9 in men and %56.8 in women in 2000. The rate of the people literate in the general of the city is %71.

In addition the rate of the population of the literate women increases faster than the population of the men, discrimination between genders is going on. While the rate of the men who were graduated at west from primary school is %99 and the women %2.4 in 1975 these rates rose to %38 for men and %13.3 for women in 2000.

Note: According to the tables above % 28,78 of the population of Mardin is illiteraded and %71,22 of it is literated. It's seen that the rate of literated men is % 84,90 and the one of the human is %56,80.

In the period between 1975 and 2000 the part of the primary, secondary and an egual school, high and an egual school and university shows a progressive increase in both the genders in the population 25 and older. Were grauduated from primary school, the % 39,6 of the men and % 18,9 of women are graduated from primary school in 2000

The rate of the men graduated from secondary or high school is four times higher than the rate of the women. The diference between gender in educational state is possible for the ones grduated from university, too % 32,2 of the men completed one of their educational level after primary school in 2000. A similar development has been recorded for women. Abaut %1 of the women in 1975 and %8,2 in 2000 comploted one of their educational level after primary school.

In 2000 %15 of the men and %3,9 of the women are graduated from high school. In 1975 while % 0,7 of the men and % 1 of the women were grduated from universty the rate of men rose to % 6 and the rate of the women rose to % 1,5 of this educational level in 2000.

 

MARITAL STATUS

The population whose marital status is married shares the vastest part in all the states. While the rate of the married population in the centre of population is the lowest with the rate of %51 this rate rises to %55 in the centrum. And after this age in which the rate of the married women is higher than that of men's till the age of 30 tihrough the city it is seen that the rate of the married men is higher.

the most important difference between genders according to marital status is seen in the never married population. The rate of never married women is %35 in the centrum and %41 in the centre of provinces and villages, while this rate of the men is %51 in the centres of provinces it is %48 in the centrum and villages.

the rate of the divorced population is guite low in all states. The rate of the population of the widows is higher than the rate of the population of the widowers in all states. The rate of the population of the widows is %5, and the rate of the widowers is %1 in the general of the city.

 

PROLIFERATION

In Mardin while the number of the child per maturally prolifle women increased till 1980, it began to decrease after this year.In 1980 while there were 977 children per 100 masturely prolific women, in 2000 there are 691 children per 1000 women. The number of the child per women has shown a decrease of about %29 in the last 20 years. While in 1970 women "45,49" had avarage 6,5 children, 2000 the women of the same age had avarage 7 children. (This rates has been arranged according to the number of children 0-4 aged per 1000 women "15-49") According to the statistics of the year 2000 158820 women had 109715 children. So the rate of ehild-women is 691

 

 THE RATE OF INFANT DEATH

The velocity of death infants of Mardin city is decreasing similarly to the general of the country since 1967 up to now.While in 1967 about 127 infanst of the 1000 genvince confinements were died before they were 1 year old, in 1977 43 infanst of 1000 genuine confinement were died before they were 1 year old.

The vecocity of the death of infanst one of the important indicators which shows the level of the development of the community. According to the dates of the 2000, 44 of per 1000 infants were died before they were 1 year old. While the velocity of death of male and femela. Infants is %42 in the centrum, %45 in the centres of the provinces the velocity of the death of infanst is determined as %45 males and %41 temales.

 

POPULATION GROWTH AND RISING RATE OF POPULATION

the poulation of Mardin in 2000 is 705.098, and the annual rising rate between 1990 -2000 is %23,3 Kızıltepe of the 9 provinces related to the city, has the hightcst population with %50,3, Ömerli has the lowest rate of population with %39,9 in the city.

The rising rate of the centrum is %20,5 when we examine the populations of the provinces related to Mardin it is seen that Kızıltepe has the hightest and Ömerli has the lowest population. The province with the hightest rate of population is Midyat with %65, and with the lowest rate of population is Ömerli with %6. The annual rising rate of population of all the nooks and villager related to Mardin is %1,5.

While the number of people sharing a square kilameter area which is also called population intesiveness is 80 in general of the city and 112 in the centrum, it varies between 32 and 459 according to provinces.

In Kızıltepe which is the vastest province accorting to area, the population intesiveness is 130, and in Yeşilli which has the least area the population intensiveness is 459.

Totally 437 of the 588 villages in the city have a population of more than 500, and a large number of the villages have a guite low population.

 

DISABILITY

When we examine it according to disability situation we can see that %60 of the disabled is male physically disables are in the top with a rate of %28.

The blids have a %16 and deares have a rate of %12. the dumbs have the lest part of the disabless, %5
