The
domestication of horse took
place in antique Mesopotamia and
Mardin, as a stop on the Silk
Route, always needed horses and
relevant fittings. Hosting
caravans and itinerant traders,
Mardin once had a quite
developed sector related to
horses and other animals used in
transportation. Saddlery used to
be an important part of this
sector, which is about to vanish
in our modern times.
