SMALL INDUSTRIAL SITES

 

Upon the initiative of small enterprises engaged in various trades, the first small industrial site in Mardin became active in 1984 with 190 enterprises. At present there is an annex under construction. This second part of the site will have places for 200 more enterprises.

Construction works are also going on for Kızıltepe and Nusaybin Small Industrial sites with work place capacities of 200 and 154, respectively. Construction is yet to start for 175 work place capacity Midyat Industrial Site.

TRADE

With its latest industrial and trading infrastructure, Mardin has become a center of attraction recently for foreign capital. It is expected that this potential will be realized soon.

DOMESTIC TRADE

Chambers of Commerce and Industry

Mardin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has 2,803 members. Membership to the chambers of Nusaybin and Kızıltepe are 1,030 and 1,314, respectively.

Chambers of Agriculture

17,599 members.

Union of the Chambers of Artisans and Craftsmen

There are 22 individual chambers and 3 agencies within the union. Together with district branches the Union has 24,198 members in total.

Banks

There are 29 bank offices in the province as a whole.

FOREIGN TRADE

Exports

Mardin exported goods worth 31,594, 668 $ in 1999. The leading export goods include cement, flour, biscuit, marble, various foodstuffs, oil, tiles, iron products, glass objects, hay, chairs, plastic pipes, sheet metal and animal feed. Importing countries are France, Russian Federation, Azerbaijan, Nahcıvan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kırgızistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Dubai and Beirut.

Border Trade

Border trade via Nusaybin Gate started in 1997 and continued in 1998. No border trade took place in 1999. There was, however some exportation in the context of border trade.

Stock Exchange

The stock exchange of Nusaybin was established in 1994. Goods involved are cereals, pulses, seed and pressed cotton, raisins, live animals and leather. There are 148 registered members to the stock exchange as of the end of the year 2000. The volume of trade in the same year amounted to TL 36,400, 475, 936.

The starting date for Kızıltepe Stock Exchange is 1996. Goods are cereals, cotton, flour, lentil and potato. There are 84 registered members and the volume of trade for 2000 is TL 24,829, 164, 316.
